My Wharton Ancestors
Kathleen May Wharton
Born on 16th August 1899 in Bircham Tofts, Norfolk
Died on 24th February 1986 in King Edward Vi Hospital, Windsor, Berkshire
Kathleen (known as Kay) was the daughter of Arthur Philip Wharton and Ellen Rose Matthews. She had two older brothers called Hugh Wharton and Sidney Alfred Wharton.
On 1 September 1929, Kathleen boarded a ship called "CITY OF VALENCIA" in Liverpool to travel to Karachi in India. She then married Captain Charles Edward Scott (who she called Robin) on 5th October 1929 in Karachi, Bombay. Kathleen wrote a letter to my Grandmother Vera, whilst living in India in May of 1930, she referred to her husband as "Robin". He was stationed at No 1 (Indian Wing) Station, Kohat.
Unfortunately I don't have many details about Charles Scott apart from the fact that he was an RAF pilot. In his retirement from the RAF it is believed he was a private tutor. According to his marriage certificate his fathers name was James.
I do not have any photographs of "Aunt Kay" however, I do remember visiting her with my father when I was about 12/13 in a flat in Windsor. I didn't really understand anything about who she was at the time and just remember her chain smoking for the majority of my visit! She was a widow and living with a friend called "Ellen". My father died a year before she did, I have no idea if she was even told he had died as he was the link we had with her, so we never sadly realised that she had passed away in 1986 until I began my research.
