Thomas was a farmer and he married twice. His first marriage to Hannah Pottle of Kenninghall, Norfolk was on 21 September 1721 in South Lopham, Norfolk. Thomas and Hannah went on to have 9 children all baptised in South Lopham. Three of which appear not to have lived beyond a few months old. Their last child Guliemus (William) was born in 1739, the same year his mother died, so presumably Hannah died either in childbirth or shortly after. Sadly Guiliemus did not survive beyond that year either.
With six children to look after and a busy farmer, Thomas remarried shortly after Hannah's death, Mary Howlett. Mary was about 18 years old when she took on the task of stepmother to 6 children and they were married in about 1740, by the time she was 30 she had also given birth to 6 more of Thomas's children in North Lopham.
North Lopham is close to the border of Norfolk and Suffolk and Thomas and Mary must have at some point in their later years returned to Stradbroke where Thomas died in 1778 or remained in North Lopham and died there but was taken to Stradbroke to be buried. He was buried in Stradbroke on 23 December 1778.
According to his will where he is known as Thomas Wharton of Winfarthing, he was a linenweaver and a farmer.
