By 1871 Thomas and Elizabeth had moved their family back to Ling Farm in Thornham, Norfolk (600 acres). It's not clear who was looking after Old Hall Farm at the time but I know that his son Arthur Philip had taken over the running of Old Hall Farm at a later date.
By the 1881 census, Thomas and Elizabeth had moved their family again to Pond House Farm in Bircham Tofts. This is where they settled until both had passed away. Thomas is listed as a Farmer Of 1296 Acres Employing 19 Men 17 Young Men 9 Boys & 8 Women.
Thomas passed away on 12 November 1890 and his death certificate shows he died on liver failure. This supports the family rumour that he was a heavy drinker and he and his brother (not sure which one) had "drunk away" most of the profits from the farms", so that by the time the farm was passed to my great grandfather and grandfather there was little money left.
Thomas was buried at St Andrews Church, Bircham Tofts on 15 November 1890. His grave is still visible today, however the church has fallen into disrepair and even has a tree growing though the middle of it now.
